A Christmas story!
Well thats it all over for another year!
I hope everyone had a fabby Christmas- my family and I had an amazing time.
This was the first year my daughter really understood the whole Santa and the celebrations of it all, she was very excited and that made me very excited, more excited than I have been in years for it.
On Christmas Eve, I warmed the mulled wine and ordered a take away. We built our daughters doll house (slightly merrily) and munched our way through Korma and nan with Michael McIntyre making us laugh in the back ground.
We did not go over the top this year with presents, something that has happened in the past few years. It easy to forget all the people in my children’s life that will also giving them presents and it becomes so overwhelming for them that they don’t get to actually enjoy the presents. Don’t get me wrong, the kids had so many this year we actually kept a few back for a rainy day so this made me thankful we didn’t get them lots.
At 6am we heard a wee voice cry “My stocking has toys!!!”
Her little face was a picture when she saw her dolls house, something she has asked for since the summer. Cass loved his little sensory treasure box I got from Esty, both have been very well played with so far.
Chocolate was eaten for a breakfast starter followed by a full gut busting Scottish breakfast!!
The day as a whole was lovely, full of food, drink and making of memories.
The last 3 Christmases have been very different for me.
Before I got married, my husband and I agreed we would spent Christmas apart with our own families.
I spent 30 years of Christmases on the Isle of Mull with my family who had the day down to a T. We did the same things and ate the same things...every time.
Since Cora we have been trying to make our own traditions, now have stuck yet but the one thing we did enjoy this year more than anything was being able to go back to our own home at the end of the day and just relax.
Christmas can be stressful. We all know that but Christmas can be hard if you’re spending the whole day with family, in a small home, kids running round, trying to help but actually getting in the way or standing back and feeling like you should be helping.
At home, my mum did everything. We actually would just sit as she ran around the kitchen (she wouldn’t have it any other way) but here we all all pitched in.
At home, we don’t drink any alcohol (dad doesn’t like women drinking and doesn’t drink himself) but here we cracked the champs at 10 am and had mulled wine before mid-day.
Christmas is what you make it – it’s about being with family/friends. Sharing love and caring together and for the kids. Let’s be completely honest the kids make the day.
The magic and excitement bounces off them and infects everyone in the room.
We headed very sleepily to bed knowing that we had had a blessed, fun day.
Merry Christmas and remember that’s that done for another year.
