BlueSky Photography - The Ultimate Family Photography experience.

Updated: Sep 10, 2019

We are the sort of family that never manages to get decent family photos let alone the perfect ones, you know the ones. Everyone looking at the camera and smiling? Normally I’m behind the camera so often it doesn’t even include all of us, so when we received an invite to come trial a family portrait experience at BlueSky Photography I jumped at it.

The story of BlueSky Photography and their building at 90 Morningside Road is a cracking one - it has a wonderful history of being a photography studio was back at the start of the 1900’s when the Yerbury family ran a photography studio (and we believe the current photography studio was the original darkroom of the Yerbury studio).

It then became office space and most recently an estate and property agents before we took over the building.

We arrived after easily finding on street paid parking, to a very homely feeling venue which felt more like a smart house than a studio, with lots of their beautiful work lining the walls.

We settled in the “living room” to discuss what we wanted from the session with the wonderful, Sarah. I had no clue as this was a new experience for me but Sarah with her expert advice kept us right and explained everything to us. She was warm, friendly and open, everything you would want from a photographer. I soon felt at ease that we were in very capable hands.

We entered the studio, which was a stark white room with bright lights and smoothing music, CC ran into the room excitedly, but Cassi had other ideas. He was scared of the massive lights and refused to move from the corner. I started to get a bit panicked that we were not going to get anywhere with this, but Sarah took it all in her stride, providing toys and entertainment to help put Cassi at ease.

Sarah started with CC, who is a right diva and was posing away which gave us plenty of time to help ease Cassi into the session. We had tried many posed photos and Sarah caught some more natural ones of the children. I love those candid ones you get, you can really catch the personality of your children in those ones.

The session lasted an hour which was just long enough to get some great pictures, not too long that the children had lost their minds. You could tell though that our two had had enough so we called it a day and I left thinking that my children were a nightmare, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I sent an anxious email (classic Gail) to them saying sorry that Cassi hadn’t played ball with them and they sent a lovely email back saying that this was normal and something they dealt with daily and not to be so hard on myself. Looking back the whole process was quick and easy, and it was just my own overthinking mind getting the better of me.

Sarah was highly professional on the way in giving us some explanation of her photography style and was also willing to accommodate our preferences.

I returned two weeks later for a little show of the pictures and they were wonderful. Sarah managed to get some cracking pics of the family, I felt you could really see our personalities and what we are as a family. Stunning.

I picked 5 of my favourites for us to take home and download and I cant wait to find the perfect spot in the house for them, we finally have some family shots of us.

We were so pleased with the experience overall, from start to finish we were treated so well. It really made us feel very special.

We were kindly gifted the experience in exchange for an honest review.
