My Hypnotherapy Journey - Week 2
“Since most problems are created by our imagination and are thus imaginary, all we need are imaginary solutions.”
Week One of my Hypnotherapy journey.
It has been 2 weeks since I met with George for our consultation, and I have been listening to the sound track he had given me. I hadn’t managed to listen every night but on the nights I did, I found myself having a better, longer and undisturbed sleep. I also found it very easy to slip into “trance” and was fast asleep before the end of the track. George assured me that the track would still be beneficial as it was connecting with my subconscious.
We organised to met on a Wednesday morning as this works out great for me as Cassi is at playgroup and I don’t have to worry about childcare.
It was a cold morning, but George’s home was warm, and he was welcoming as he was before, I felt at ease and was looking forward to what this session had in store for me. It had been explained to me that today I would be going into trance.
We started with a few exercises, he asked me to identify what good had happened to me in the week and if I’m honest this harder than you would think. George explained we often don’t see the good in each day, that the bad events normally over shadow the good and we are left feeling like nothing good ever happens. This practice of listing the good things that have happened to us daily will help reinforce the effects of hypnotherapy.
After this, it was straight on the bed, it was a basic massage style bed which always surprises me of how comfortable they actually are. Comfy pillows and a blanket were a lovely bonus, I felt warm, comfortable and safe, ready for the treatment to begin.
I was also hooked up to a little machine that would help George see how relaxed I would become during the session and he would get an idea if I had gone into trance.
Now this is where things get a little foggy, the only thing I really remember is being told to close my eyes and picture a candle and then you lost me. I don’t remember words, but I remember sensations, swirling shapes and colours passed my eyes and I felt that I was about to drop off but never actually did. I explained it as getting to the top of a hill but never going over it…if that makes sense. It was pleasant, and I felt very relaxed.
The next thing I know we are counting down from 5 and I was back in the room, back from where ever I had gone before.
I didn’t feel sleepy or groggy, in fact I felt exactly like I did before I went into trance.
George explained I had managed a very good first session with signs to him I had gone into trance and I told him what I had experienced which he found encouraging.
The session ended with him telling me to keep listening to the track and we would met again in a week.
I didn’t sleep well that night though, my sleep was full of restless dreams but I took this as a sign my mind was having a clear out.
In the days after, I found myself having Georges word pop into my head. Like a reminder that what I was doing in that moment was a “good, happy thing” happening in my day-to-day life.
I also had a bit of a “blip” on Friday night when my daughter complained of a sore tummy and I was triggered and panicked with the mention of the word “tummy”. It didn’t last all night though, as nothing happened, and I relaxed. I don’t know if this has anything to do with the session, but this was not the normal routine when I fear my children are ill.
I feel extremely positive for the next session; small changes lead to bigger ones and I am all for that.

At George Lewis Hypnotherapy, we use a Solution Focused (SF) approach.
The first step is to identify what you want to achieve. We focus on that, and the solution, rather than the causes. It's all about the present and the future, and not the past.
Research shows that the SF model can help people make significant and positive changes relatively quickly.
Hypnosis, and the state of trance, is a very safe procedure, which can help you reduce stress and anxiety. This is done very simply through relaxation techniques, which allow you to focus on the positive aspects of your life. This helps to encourage the shift in your perspective which is central to the process.
