This feature is on fire!!

I have some exciting mothers coming up so you will want to stay tuned for that.

This week we have the wonderful Ruth, an ex-pat mummy with a baba on the way. Ruth has a fabulous instagram page, find her here and you can also follow her story on her blog here

The Mum

I’m Ruth Acar, a Scottish lass living in the crazy city of Istanbul with my husband, five year old son and baby girl on the way. I’m a strong advocate of mental health awareness, holistic living and realism in motherhood. With a background in holistic therapies, teaching and a global lifestyle I enjoy writing as a form of stress relief and to share my journey and ideas with others to enhance their well-being emotionally, and physically.

Questions

Where are you from? Do you still live there?if not where have you settled?

Ayrshire, Scotland . Now in Istanbul in Turkey, my husband is Turkish and I moved 6 years ago to be with him

What would be your revolution?

No poverty in the world.

What did you do on an average Saturday night before kids?

When I was younger drinking and clubs. In the last ten years more like a like a lovely meal and wine with friends or a take away and sofa snuggle with hubby.

What is your Saturday like now?

Trying to get everything done in one day, deal with the tiredness from pre school all week. Appeasing tantrums with Netflix and eating leftovers.

If you have alone time-where would you go?

I’m really happy on my own anywhere, when I do get a bit of alone time I’m happy even just in the local cafe reading or writing. If I had a lot of alone time I would just love to have a small break alone with my husband somewhere/anywhere child free. If I was really lucky I would go with him back to the Maldives where we had our honeymoon, that would be the dream!

Where is your happy place?

As I live abroad, my happy place is home at my Dads house. Drinking copious amount of tea, eating crumpets, british cheese and crisps, and seeing friends and family.

What thing do you not like to do?

I really hate hoovering. I love the result but hate doing it

If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?

To fly. So I can fly home anytime I want just to check in on family and friends.

Who are your top 3 lady heroes?

1. My Mum was my biggest hero, she died when I was 17 and I realize more and more now how incredible she was.

2. Princess Diana, she was such an inspiration and what a lot of crap she endured to be so.

3. Anna Whitehouse (Mother Pukka) for all of the relentless work she is doing to campaign for flexible working for parents in the UK.

When you were little, what did you want to be?

An air hostess

What’s the best book you have read this year?

As I’m expecting again I just read Happy Mum Happy Baby by Gi Fletcher and loved it.

What makes you feel afraid?

Anything that makes my children feel afraid or unhappy.

What would your last meal be?

Enormous amounts of Sushi.

What is your dream job?

I’ve actually been lucky enough to have achieved my dream job which was jet setting around the world teaching Spa related treatments to therapists and inspiring them

In holistic wellness. Now times have changed and I would love to design my own aromatherapy products for Mums and babies/ children with local produce from here in Turkey and being here for my children.

On the first day of ruling the world, what would you do?

Get cancer cured once and for all.

Thanks Ruth!!
