Are you from Edinburgh? If not how did you come to live here?

I'm not, I'm from Lancashire! I went to Uni in Dundee then moved to Edinburgh as all my friends and boyfriend (now hubby) were from Edinburgh. I luckily got a job in Edinburgh too!

Before Kids, where would we have found you on a Saturday night?

Somewhere in Leith in one of the fab bars/restaurants having drinks and dinner with friends.

Or, round at a friends watching TV, having a drink and getting a takeaway.

What is your average Saturday like now with kids?

Saturday nights are generally at home, with a takeaway and a G&T!

We usually order the takeaway to be delivered before the kids have gone to bed.

Then once they are in bed settle down with yummy food, a G&T (or two) and either a movie or the latest Netflix box set we are watching. Rock and roll eh! Oh how times have changed.

What did you find hardest about having children?

I think it's the lack of spontaneity with regards to everything! We cant just pop out for drinks as we have 2 wee ones to consider so when we do go out we need to plan well in advance so as to organise baby sitters.

That said when we do go out we don't come back late as I can't seem to keep my eyes open until past midnight!!

Tell us a time when becoming a parent blew your mind. What challenges have you faced?

The main one that stands in my mind was when my little boy started school last summer.

Within weeks he was reading and writing - they are like sponges waiting to learn and eager to learn.

In all honesty I marvel at every day at both of my kids - they change and grow up so much from week to week.... but the speed at which they come on when they start school is amazing.

We've faced many challenges - I think as a parent even though they are young these little ones have their own minds! What they want to do and what they don't wan to do. What they like, what they don't like. That can be rather challenging in certain situations especially when you have 2 very strong willed children. (My mum who was a health visitor recently said to me that out of all the toddlers she had seen in her working career she had never met one as strong willed as my toddler. Great - thanks Mum!).

The challenge for me (I am also strong willed!) is to pick my battles, roll with it sometimes and not get too wound up when one or both of them is not as compliant as I would like them to be.

They are little people after all and whilst that is challenging on some occasions I'd rather they know their mind (I think!) as it will stand them in good stead as they grow up.

If you have a quiet childfree afternoon in Edinburgh, where would you spend it?

I'd spend it in the centre of Edinburgh, getting my hair cut and wondering in and out of the shops along Princes St and George st. Browsing the MAC makeup in Harvey Nics in peace, going into Space NK on George st to try out some products and browsing EVERY rail in Zara!

Favourite place for a cocktail with the girls?

Anywhere that serves cocktails!

I don't have a favourite place if I'm honest.

When the girls do go out we tend to go to Stockbridge or into town for dinner and drinks.

I'm a foodie so cocktails is always accompanied by nice food - Dishoom is my fave place at the moment for cocktails followed by some delicious Indian food.

Your hidden gem in the city?

It's a bit further out of the city but Craigies Farm in South Queensferry is a great place to go with the kids.

There is an enclosed outdoor play area so you can watch the kids play whilst enjoying a coffee. There is a small farm and in summer the variety of fruit you can pick is amazing - its well worth a visit if you don't live that side of town.

What do you love most about being a parent in Edinburgh?

The variety of free and paid places that you can go to.

There's plenty places just outside of the main centre that you can visit and most places are pretty child friendly. There's also an abundance of coffee shops so always somewhere to go to refuel!
