TV Memories
Did you have a TV in your bedroom? I remember when my gran and papa got a new TV and they handed down their old one to me. It was a black and white set where you had to tune in the channels every time I wanted to change them, a pain but I loved it. It meant I could watch my shows in peace.
Now a days Tv’s have come a long way, my black and white one ( model T-18 Baird ) to something more hi-tech like the Oled Tv Panasonic, you can certainly see the picture better now that everything is in HD.
It was a big thing having my own TV, something that is pretty standard in a child’s bedroom now, for me it meant I didn’t have to watch the “babyish” shows my younger sisters were into. I watched shows my parents wouldn’t let me watch in secret like “Spitting image” and “Eurotrash”. To a young island girl, the adult themes were shocking but I was too curious for my own good and loved watching them in the dark, with the sound right down.
It also meant I had some entertainment as I had awful insomnia as a child, I would be awake for hours in the middle of the night and having a TV in my room meant I didn’t have to disturb the family with my nocturnal behaviours. I would draw, read, study and watch whatever was on in the middle of the night which was not much back in the 90s normally it was an old western film or the BBC bitesize study shows that were meant to help with your exams, maybe that’s why I did so well in my exams who knows.
I have great memories of Saturday mornings with BBC live and kicking or SM:TV live, cereal and, my duvet. You don’t get that anymore, cartoons and shows are watchable whenever you want now. Smart TV’s, recording live shows means you never have to wake up or be in your chair at a certain time so you don’t miss your favourites as it’s all available now with the click of a button.
Did you have a TV in your room? Was it a hand me down or were you gifted a new one?
