What I have learnt since I started my blog.

I have been blogging weekly since November and it has been an experience, I can tell you!

I started this blog for something to call my own after years of “being just a mummy” and feeling like I needed something just for me.

I had a blog years ago but didn’t take it seriously and back then social media was brand new and getting the blogs out there was not as easy as popping a link in the bio.

I have had some great advice along the way and this has helped boost my blog to the growing site it is today but I still have so much to learn.

Blogging is hard, this is due to the many writers out there. It’s not like it was many years ago where only a hand full did it but now many people see it as a way of becoming “internet famous” and the path to an easy life.

Is blogging disappearing in a world obsessed with Instagram, maybe? But there will always be people out there looking for words.

One of the great things has been I have made lovely friends from all over the world and we talk daily, we were brought together to support each other with our mental health issues, motherhood and general craziness. This has been a big highlight for me as when I go to New York in October to see my sister and brother in law one of the lovely ladies is going to show me around and teach me some yoga. How amazing is that!

So here is what I have learned in the 9 months I have been online.

1.

Do what you feel

I have often looked to others for inspiration which is great, you can learn a lot from some bloggers who have been in the game for years but if you don’t do it your way it just doesn’t work.

Write about thing you know, think and feel. This makes the blog relatable and chances are someone is thinking the same.

2.

Dont limit yourself

I started by only engaging with people in my area but I have ended up talking to people from all over the world and I love this!

Read all kinds of blogs and information, this has opened my eyes to a different world.

I now have “friends” from all over and chat to them all regularly.

Open yourself up as I said before my pal in NYC is taking me out when I go over.

3.

Photography is hard

I invested in a fancy camera to help enhance my blog and I learned quickly I have no idea how to use a camera.

I am still trying to figure it but has made a big difference to the quality of my pictures.

I have signed myself up for classes and I cant wait to learn more!

4.

Somethings just shouldn’t be said

I am all for being open but early on something I wrote got taken the wrong way and I had to delete it. It was harmless but I didn’t want to single anyone out, saying that I am not scared to tackle some topics. This includes my talk about abortion, I found I really got people talking about this issue.

5.

I still have long to go

I am nowhere near where I want to be with my blog, my site is basic due to my lack of tech knowledge and my pictures are pretty average but I know I am heading in the right direction so I will get there.

This is why I have loved blogging so much as everyday I am learning something new and adding it to my skills list!
