Information:
Westgate farm is part of the Farmhouse Inn chain and is situated in the north of Edinburgh.
It is out the way so you would need transport to get there.
Westgate provide breakfast, carverys with a cakeaway service and ice cream parlour. Yum!
This location boosts a very lovely (and clean) play area that will keep the kids happy while you enjoy the food.
Highlights:
We arrived not long after it opened at 8am and so it was lovely and quiet and we got a great table placed right next to the kids play area, which CC loved.
The play area had lots to entertain the children, with a play station and Xbox that had the popular games the youth are all in to today. Minecraft anyone?
A touch screen wall tablet will satisfy the younger ones. The large tractor and soft play logs will get the imagination going and the selection of machines will have them digging in your pockets for spare change.
The breakfast was a buffet style with the option of two plate sizes, we both went for the bigger size but I could have fitted my breakfast on the smaller plate. The price was right, 6.99 for the bigger plate (my husband piled his high and it was well worth the price) and 3.99 for the smaller. Unlimited toast, tea and coffee add to this makes it a very budget friendly and satisfactory breakfast.
The selection was great, with plenty of veggie options though I think some veggie sausages would have been a wonderful addition.
CC went for her favourite, pancakes which sadly took a long time to come. My husband and I had nearly finished by the time they came but was no big thing as CC was having a blast playing she didn’t even notice.
The decor is the same as most chain carverys, it always looks a little tired and outdated but this is the normal for these places. They try and make it look like a cosy home that would look more at home in the 90s but it was clean and tidy and the staff very smilie and friendly.
The cakeaway selection looked amazing and the ice cream selection massive! It was far too early to indulge in these but we will be back to try them.
This venue may not have the wow factor in looks but it will not disappoint in providing a very family breakfast.
